Ok. So what do you need
to know? Band from Vancouver, British Columbia, breeding ground for bands with
singers that sound like Cher and artists designed for careers lasting the length
of an AOR Commerical. Formed because somebody knew somebody who went to camp with
somebody who let somebody else carry his guitar equipment. A couple years, 500
copies of their EP and almost 1000 copies of their LP later, In Medias Res, as
these brothers-from-other-mothers call themselves, decided that while Vancouver
was nice and good, they wanted a label to put out their records to the rest of
the world, and also a high quality booking agent to send them on top notch tours
until the End Of Days. Any advice? So what do these kids in their early twenties
sound like? Think of a band that started out really inspired by acts like Pedro
the Lion, the Appleseed Cast, Weezer, and Radiohead but then started growing up…
getting into different stuff, appreciating the old stuff in new light. Suddenly
Sade wasn’t so uncool anymore. Neither was Vaughan Williams, Sarah McLachlan,
Talk Talk, Can, Biz Markie, and Beyonce. But whatever, what do you know? You haven’t
seen them live, they might as well be bunch of wannabe emo kids yelling about
how much they hate girlfriends. So let’s give it a shot anyways, ok? Walls
of sound, bodies flailing all over the place, garagesale tvs on the blink, two
hundred kids singing along, and people coming up afterwards with a look in their
eyes like… “What the heck just happened to me?” And their record
isn’t so bad either, though admittedly, they still haven’t found a
way of capturing the live show just yet. Rave reviews greeted the disc (Of What
Was, released 03) from ezines like Pastepunk, Emoisdead, Indulged, and Punkinternational,
not to mention home grown papers like Discorder. Nothing less than 4 stars out
of 5. Everybody is like “Best independent band out there” shortly
followed by “Why the heck aren’t these guys signed?” Good question.
Well, it’s probably cause this is the first time the fellas have got their
act together and decided that if they were gonna do anything with their lives
it was to sit down for some fatty style eats, then play music for as long as possible
to as many people as possible, till their grandkids tell them to quit because
they aint cool anymore and they don’t want em to be like those Rolling Stones.
So up until that pre-destined point these boys’ll be rolling on tour for
years straight in their BustedAss CostcoStocked NeverSayDie1983 DodgeCamperVan,
living their Legendary-Status No-Nonsense Lifestyle (you know the one, where they
don’t blow cash on clothes, booze, girls, or bowls) and bringing it harder
than anyone ever has or ever will. We are a band from Vancouver, British Columbia,
breeding ground for bands with singers that sound like Cher and artists designed
for careers lasting the length of an AOR Commercial… save us. |
